Most people will agree at some level, that Jesus of Nazareth - the subject of the New Testament - was a very important person. Many will agree - if they know the historical facts - that Jesus of Nazareth might be the most influential person of all history. Most will be hard pressed to deny the fact that the New Testament is the most widely published, and perhaps most influential book ever writtenread by more people than any other book in history. Many people claim to be "Christians", although that word will mean different things to different people. For most, it means one knows and agrees with some historical facts about the person of Jesus of Nazareth. To others, it means they go to religious building they call a "church", and go through the rituals and prescribed meetings of that particular organization, either occasionally or 'religiously'. For many, it means some intellectual ethical framework they try to live by that somehow originated by this Christ fellow. Today, one can even be an openly practicing homosexual "Christian leader".
The good news is that you don't have to be confused about who Jesus of Nazareth is, and what His teachings are. All you have to do is two things. First, you must see that you are a guilty sinner who will stand before your Creator someday soon, to have every word, thought and deed judged by an all holy, righteous, just God. Second, you must read Jesus' Words in the Gospels as a child - meaning to believe what Jesus says without trying to explain it away, or twist His words fit your life choices. For example, if I tell a 4 year old child that a helicopter is going to bring a 10 ton Hershey's kiss candy on their lawn in one hour, she will wait with baited breath for it to happen! In the same way, as we read Jesus' words, we need to accept what He says with child-like faith. Jesus accepts nothing else as true faith, for He says, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 18:3) Dear friend, do you want to enter the kingdom of heaven? If you do, read on
Does Jesus teach that entering the kingdom of heaven is by means of "going to church"? No, He does not teach that. Does Jesus teach that entering the kingdom of heaven is by means of being a moral person who sin's less than your neighbor? No, Jesus does not teach that. Does Jesus teach that entering the kingdom of heaven is by means of knowing in your mind, many facts about Him and the Bible? No, Jesus does not teach that. Does Jesus teach that entering the kingdom of heaven is some combination of these things? No, Jesus does not teach that.
Well, what does Jesus teach is the way to enter into the kingdom of heaven? Jesus says plainly, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). Jesus is the Way! You might ask, 'well, O.K., but what does that mean'. It means that trusting in Him as a little child, loving Him for what He did for you (coming to earth to show you the Way to the Father despite his rejection by men, and ultimately his laying down his life for his sheep), and obeying His commands as you FOLLOW HIM, you will be on the Way.
You might ask, 'how do I follow Him'? By obeying His commands, speaking as He spoke, and doing what He did. Unfortunately, this is where MANY people are mislead, because they start looking to men to tell them what Jesus says. People who meet Jesus, even sincere ones, are easily led into following men who say they are following Jesus, instead of truly following JUST JESUS. They are immediately lead astray as they follow pastor or reverend or evangelist or priest or whatever clergymen they choose to put themselves under. They might even follow one of the authors of the books in the Bible (like Paul), instead of following JUST JESUS, who says, "I am the good shepherdand there will be one flock and ONE shepherd." (John 10:7-16)
Jesus never promises that following Him will be easy, but He does promise that whoever follows Him will enter into life everlasting with Him at the end of their physical life. What a glorious promise! But to inherit that promise, you must follow the Real Jesus, and you must have COURAGE to do so, for if you do follow Jesus, it will be a difficult Way (Matt. 7:13-14; Luke 13:23-30). You see, you must give up everything you think is important to you, in order to follow Jesus, for Jesus says, "Whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:33) And unless we are His disciple, we cannot be on the Way; and if we are not on the Way, then we cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven.
Most people involved in formal religion (going to church, etc.) think they are on the Way, but they are deceived. They are in a counterfeit religious system with many labels (evangelical, pentecostal, baptist, non-denominational, protestant, mormon, jehovah witness, roman catholic, unitarian, etc.) set up by the enemy of their souls, to keep them from truly following the real Jesus. If you, dear reader, really want to follow the Real Jesus, then here is what He says you must do in order to START on the Way after Him:
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26, 33)
The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (John 12:25)
While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you." He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." (Matt. 12:46-50)
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matt. 28:18-20)
The Words of the Son of God above mean what they say. Are you willing to receive them and thus start on the Way after Him towards life eternal?
Before we can walk after Him, we must truly let go of everything in this life that holds us back from total surrender and abandonment to the Fathers Son and His plain commands. This is especially true of our religious/church concepts, ideas and traditions. We cant follow Jesus and at the same time be part of the counterfeit religious system (churchianity) which explains away His commands and whose purpose is to prevent people from following Jesus.
If we seek to love one another as He commands, we cannot do that alone we must seek out other true disciples, and start to walk after him and serve him together. We must not deceive ourselves by hanging around (and even living for) people taking the label christian, but who are not willing to obey the above commands. Jesus plainly says, If you love me, obey my commands. (John 14:15) So many use as an excuse to not follow Jesus, well, these other christians (or natural family members) need help, so Ill stay around and love them by trying to get them to see Are you going to use that lame excuse? In response to those who offer this excuse, Jesus has this teaching..
As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good bye to my family." Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:57-62)
Whose love is true, Jesus' and those people obeying his commands, or the person disobeying Jesus out of supposed love for others?
Are you already making excuses? Excuses like, 'Jesus can't mean that'. Perhaps you are already demonstrating that you will not receive Jesus' words as a little child, as He requires.
